DESCRIPTION:Earth's wind systems have been an engine of human expansion across the globe for millennia. Join us this weekend for another of our FREE CCMM lectures to learn more about the driving forces behind these winds. \n\n\n\nCaptain Elliot Rappaport\, Assistant Professor of Marine Transportation at the Maine Maritime Academy\, will present his lecture: Global Winds and the History of Exploration this coming Sunday on Zoom at 2pm. You can also watch it on Facebook Live by following this link. \n\n\n\nCaptain Rappaport has had a long career at sea focused on the operation of sail training and oceanographic research vessels\, including eighteen years at SEA Education Association in Woods Hole. At SEA\, Captain Rappaport served as a professor of seamanship\, navigation\, earth sciences\, and leadership\, a Captain of sailing training ships that take college students to sea for field programs in marine and environmental science and worked in voyage planning\, logistics\, safety\, and public relations.\n\n \n\nHe will discuss the pathways between continents the Earth's winds have provided to seafarers over time-- Pacific Islanders\, Arabian merchants\, Norse voyagers\, and finally the navigators of western Europe.
