SUMMARY:History in the Making: A Mixed Media Workshop with Jackie Reeves
DESCRIPTION:LENGTH: 1-day\, 6 hours LEVEL: all levels WHAT TO EXPECT: Every time we make something new\, we're also making history our own history. Each mark\, each layer\, each choice carries echoes of our experiences\, our memories\, and our past work. In this workshop\, we'll tap into that personal history to spark new ideas\, deepen our curiosity\, and expand our creative vocabulary. Guided by experimental multidisciplinary artist Jackie Reeves and in conjunction with her exhibition No Fixed Address\, you'll begin with fearless\, playful mark-making in drawing\, painting\, and collage to loosen up and discover what's already there in your practice. We'll pause to reflect\, journal\, and share\, uncovering the threads that connect our past to the work we're making now. The day will unfold in a rhythm of action and reflection: Wild Beginnings step-by-step prompts to encourage mark-making with abandon Toolbox Building group brainstorming to collect and expand mark-making techniques Design & Editing introductions to elements and principles of design\, followed by cutting\, pasting\, and reassembling works into a cohesive series Context & Inspiration slide shows and videos of 20th- and 21st-century artists to place your work in conversation with the broader art world Sharing & Discussion connect with others\, exchange insights\, and see your own history reflected in the pieces you create EXTRAS: Basic materials are provided. You'll leave with a small series of mixed-media works on paper\, a set of creative tools to keep\, and a renewed connection to your personal story as an artist. DON'T FORGET: Bring any materials you love to work with (optional) and a brown-bag lunch for the break. The Launchpad is on the first floor of the Education Wing.
