DESCRIPTION:Quakers tell their history in South Yarmouth Quaker descendants\, also known as the Friends\, will tell stories of their ancestors who settled South Yarmouth along the Bass River in the 1700s and built a meetinghouse there in 1808 during a meetinghouse tour and a walk in the adjacent cemetery. Bob Kelley\, a local descendant of David Kelley who gave the half-acre of land to the Society of Friends where their meetinghouse was built in 1808\, will relate the history of the Friends' influential presence in the area known as Friends Village or Quaker Town. He also will talk about the Native Americans of the area\, the settlement of Packet's Landing and the businesses in the area in 1851. Other costumed interpreters will portray some of the notable people buried in the graveyard. Sponsored by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth\, the presentations will be at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the meetinghouse followed by refreshments in the Old Schoolhouse behind it.
