Flax Pond Recreation Area Open House

The Yarmouth Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting an Open House at the Flax Pond Recreation Area in South Yarmouth on Thursday, September 25th from 5:30 to 7PM. The event is open to the public and attendance is welcomed. The goals of this event are to create awareness and expose the property to the community, as well as introduce future hosting opportunities. This free evening will include beer and wine, appetizers, guided tours of the premises and prize giveaways to attendees. Over the past several months, the Yarmouth Parks & Recreation Department has made a number of large-scale improvements to the facility, including adding 2000 lf of hardscape pathways, a 500sf addition that includes year-round restrooms and a meeting room for 12-15 people, a children's playscape for ages 2.9 through 12 years of age, a 38' diameter gazebo adjacent to the main parking lot and a 20' rectangular shade shelter at the crest of the path leading to the fresh water beach. These updates and additions have made a substantial impact on the facility and area as a whole. Patricia Armstrong, Director of the Yarmouth Parks & Recreation Department, stated that "Flax Pond has been developed as a comprehensive community asset to service families, schools and local businesses. Our new year-round Lorusso Lodge in its serene setting is a great place for the casual wedding, formal function, family gatherings or corporate training, and has a capacity of 150 seated. The property design includes over 2,000 feet of pathways leading to the outdoor meeting spaces and handicapped access to the water's edge. With recent developments now complete, Flax Pond is now available for corporate training, weddings and functions of all calibers, or old fashion family picnics by the lake. We are excited to reintroduce this community treasure to our residents and business partners across the Cape." Residents from Yarmouth and surrounding towns, as well as visitors, are encouraged to attend this free event to view the updated facility.
