British/American Blues Band Bees Deluxe play the Cape
Bees Deluxe Invite you to Grumpy’s in Falmouth. Join Bees Deluxe, Boston's notorious acid blues band, for their return to the Cape. With virtuoso guitar work, foot-stomping originals and innovative takes on classic blues songs Bees Deluxe brings blues to a whole new level. Bees Deluxe have won the hearts and ears of audiences from Maine to Miami and have played with notable artists including: Joanne Shaw Taylor, Matt Schofield, Ronnie Earl, Roomful of Blues, Walter Trout, David Maxwell and other national acts. The band celebrates the music of Billie Holiday, Etta James, Albert Collins, Robert Cray, Tinsley Ellis, Joe Zawinul, Magic Sam and Freddie but isn’t afraid to take risks—reimagining classic blues tunes and coloring out of the box with improvisation and uncommon musicality. The four-piece band is spearheaded by British guitarist Conrad Warre, and Carol Band on keyboards, harmonica and vocals. Jim Gildea on bass and vocals and Paul Giovine on drums and percussion provide the foundation of the band on stage and in the studio. The musicians each bring their own experience to the mix. Band was recruited from jazz bands that were playing the Boston circuit, notably Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge. Giovine was discovered by the band playing rock and roll in a slew of punk rock clubs in New England and Gildea was drafted to Bees Deluxe by drummer Giovine after sharing the stage with him at several country-bro festivals. Warre, was in a high-school band in London, with Paul Kossoff, of the band Free, and has toured Europe with the English Beat and the Joe Jackson Band. He migrated from London to New York where he became a regular performer at the legendary CBGB’s. Bees Deluxe exudes a contagious enthusiasm at every performance and continues to push the limits of the blues, ignoring the confines of convention and they do it with impeccable musicality, originality and a touch of insanity. jim Gildea, bass player for Bees Deluxe, says: "Grumpy’s is a fantastic blues dive bar designed exactly for the type of music we play!" "smoky vocals and gorgeous guitar work, offers a glossy, atmospheric sound" — Ed Symkus, Metro West Daily News.
