Cape Symphony Presents: Marimba Cabaret
Join Brian Calhoon as he celebrates Pride month with a special MARIMBA CABARET featuring show tunes and pop covers re-imagined for marimba and voice. Brian sings and plays marimba while joined by percussionist Julian Loida. MARIMBA CABARET is an award-winning show that has been presented in San Francisco, D.C., Portland, and Boston. Brian has performed his unique covers from coast to coast, most recently at the Art House and at weekly porch concerts at the Brasswood Inn on Commercial Street in Provincetown. Percussionist and composer Julian Loida will also perform his own original compositions for vibraphone. Together, they will pay homage to musical theater greats Stephen Sondheim and Jerry Herman as well as pop icons Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato, among others. There’s something for everybody in this upbeat, heartfelt, musical coming out story. Brian Calhoon (b. 1984, he/him) is a multi-faceted percussionist, singer, and innkeeper based in Provincetown, MA. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Brian specializes in music for the marimba and his voice and can be heard performing show tunes and pop covers in a show he created called the Marimba Cabaret. Since 2020, Brian and his husband Tom have owned and operated the Brasswood Inn in Cape Cod where they enjoy hosting guests and producing concerts on the inn’s prominent front porch. In the summer of 2020, Brian personally accompanied legendary jazz singer Marilyn Maye and Broadway’s John Cameron Mitchell at a special outdoor concert in Provincetown. Brian holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Boston Conservatory, and is a Marimba One artist. Brian was previously Director of Admissions for The Boston Conservatory and is now an independent admissions counselor and innkeeper.
