Nature writer Robert Finch talk
Nature writer Robert Finch of Wellfleet will discuss three classic works in his genre about Cape Cod at a lecture Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Captain Bangs Hallet House in Yarmouth Port. The free hybrid lecture will have limited in-person seating for 30 and remote by Zoom. He will discuss Henry David Thoreau’s “Cape Cod” (1864), Henry Beston’s “The Outermost House” (1928), and Wyman Richardson’s “The House on Nauset Marsh” (1955). Finch said he chose these books because of their exceptional works and they were written at different times, not only noting changes in the beach itself, but in the human presence that each writer encountered there. Regarded as one of America’s leading nature writers, Finch has published eight books of essays and is co-editor of “The Norton Book of Nature Writing.” He has given broadcast commentaries on WCAI radio since 2005. This program presented by the Historical Society of Yarmouth is free and provided by a grant from Mass Humanities. Reservations are required at www.hsoy.org/events.
