A Troubled First Thanksgiving
A troubled first Thanksgiving Professor David J. Silverman will present a fresh perspective on the history of the initial alliance between the Plymouth Colonists and the Wampanoag tribe up to its violent dissolution during King Philp’s war. He tells the story from the point of view of the Native Americans in the free live Zoom lecture Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. through the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth website. The lecture is based on his book, “This Land is Their Land: The Wampanoag Indians, Plymouth Colony, and the Troubled History of Thanksgiving.” Silverman is professor of history at George Washington University and the author of several books on Native American, colonial American and American racial history. Admission is free but registration is required at www.hsoy.org; click on events. Space is limited but only one registration per device is needed.
