Wage and Hour and Immigration Compliance for the Hospitality Industry
Employment-related laws continue to evolve, particularly those laws affecting how hospitality industry businesses in Massachusetts pay employees. The United States Department of Labor and the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General have targeted the hospitality industry for compliance audits and have emphasized the use of stiffer penalties (such as multiple damages and civil monetary penalties) when enforcing immigration and wage and hour laws. Wage and hour law and immigration law changes and changes to the seasonal worker landscape has also caused an increase in litigation and enforcement actions in these fields.
- The nuts and bolts of seasonal foreign worker compliance;
- How to comply with both federal and state law (and why employers must do both);
- How to avoid common, but potentially crippling, mistakes in calculating and paying minimum wage and overtime;
- Compliance with the Massachusetts and Federal Tipping Law;
- Common mistakes by restaurateurs and hotel/motel owners;
- Personal liability, multiple damages and attorneys’ fees exposure under Massachusetts and federal law;
- What you should do if faced with a government audit or threatened litigation.
This Is the only seminar designed for the hospitality industry featuring a speaker from the agency charged with enforcing these laws.
