Irish History A six-week class. Thursdays, March 5-April 9, 6-7:30pm. Sean Murphy, instructor. The history of the people of Ireland is a complex one of ancient greatness, paganism, Christianity, invasion, occupation, repression, famine and attempted genocide. The topics that will be covered are: The Vikings and their impact on Ireland; The arrival of the Normans and the history of Ireland from the twelfth to the sixteenth century; The Reconquest of Ireland: 1536 – 1691; Irish people as slaves and indentured laborers; The Penal Laws; 1798 to 1916: Rebellion. $100, $85 for members.
